Heel Pain

Symptoms of heel pain

Many people suffer from heel pain at some time in their lives; some of us are more at risk than others.  There are many different types of heel pain.

Common symptoms include:

  •             Pain on rising in the morning or from rest.
  •             Pain in the heel which worsens as the day progresses
  •             Pain which is intermittent.

Symptoms can be of sudden onset or appear gradually, with either one foot or both at the same time.

Causes

There are many things can lead to heel pain here a few common ones:

  • Biomechanics, either flat feet or high arches leads to overloading of soft tissues structures in the foot during activity
  • Poor footwear, prolonged barefoot walking and/or thongs
  • Overuse injury
  • Excessive weight gain
  • Diabetes can be a predisposing factor
  • Neurological conditions
  • Tight muscles and tendons

Treatments

  •             Rest from activity that is aggravating the pain.
  •             Correction of foot mechanics if required.
  •             Low dye rigid strapping.
  •             Shockwave Therapy.
  •             Acupuncture
  •             Stretching of calf muscles and plantar fascia band.
  •             Ice and massage.
  •             Steroid injection.
  •             Surgical boot for severe cases.
